Topic:  How to be an Effective Advocate for your Child

 

Speaker:  Missy Alexander, Parent Educator

                 Parents' Place of Maryland

The AAACC will host a panel discussion with adults with autism who will share their perspectives on transitioning into adulthood with an autism spectrum disorder.  Ruth Snyder is an author, advocate and parent.  She is one of the authors of the recently published Asperger Syndrome and Girls.  Ari Ne’eman is the founding president of the Autistic Self Advocacy Network, an organization with chapters in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Illinois and New York.  Mr. Ne’eman is also a student at the University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus.

School Board Candidates’ Night:  Our September meeting will be a jointly sponsored meeting with the Learning Disabilities Association of Calvert County (LDA) and the Arc of Southern Maryland.  This meeting will provide the public an opportunity to become acquainted with the candidates vying for positions on the Calvert County Board of Education.  Equal time will be given each candidate to present his/her platform.  The audience will also have an opportunity to pose questions to them & to view candidates’ responses to questions formulated by the LDA, AAACC and the Arc.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DRIVING  DIRECTIONS:

1.    From Route 2/4 in Prince Frederick, turn east onto Hwy 231 (Ford Dealership is on the west side; 7-Eleven is on the east side.

2.    Pass Sheriff’s Office on left; at stop sign, turn right onto Main Street (AKA Hwy 764).

3.    Go 2 blocks and turn left into the parking lot at the "County Services Plaza" sign.

4.    After you turn into the parking lot, the building is straight ahead; it is a 3 story, gray building with a green stripe across the middle.

5.    The side entrance facing Main Street is the easiest; the conference room is inside the County Services Plaza Building on the 

       1st floor (Room #102).  Signs will be posted.
